Never content to rest on his literal laurels, Sam Underwood wasted no time getting back to work after winning the best actor award at the Soho International Film Festival. Late July saw the New York premiere of Sam Underwood’s new play Losing Days, a harrowing and hilarious journey of a man losing his mind and finding it again.
Anchored by live music from Frank Turner’s Tape Deck Heart and the debut performance of The Boxroom Larrys as well as a daring performance by Underwood himself, Losing Days sets out to tackle the very real issues surrounding mental health.
Based on real events, Underwood sets out to tell a candid story about the skepticism, shame and silence that all too often accompanies the manner in which mental health is addressed. It also delves into the courage of confronting the struggle of mental illness and smashing the taboos that surround it.
After taking on Atlier Roquette on the 28th July and The Sheen Center on the 29th July, Losing Days will make its UK debut tonight at New Town Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and will run until 27th August. You can see further details of the available shows and book tickets here.Â
This new play is coming off the back of a successful film festival run for the short film Ophelia which stars and is scripted by Underwood and also stars Valorie Curry (House of Lies, The Following, The Tick) as the title character.
